Frequently Asked Questions
-
Therapy is a highly individualized and collaborative process. At Mensink Counseling & Consulting, we work closely with each client to identify concerns, set goals, and promote meaningful change. Sessions provide a confidential, nonjudgmental space where you or your family can explore emotions, relationships, and experiences at your own pace.
Please note: All therapy services are currently offered virtually. Sessions are conducted via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing. In some cases, phone sessions may be appropriate.
-
The length of therapy varies for each person, depending on your unique needs, goals, and presenting concerns. Some clients experience meaningful progress in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support over a longer period of time.
Standard session length: 50 minutes per session.
-
Session frequency is determined collaboratively based on your needs and treatment plan. Many clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions and adjust to less frequent appointments as progress is made. Session frequency will be discussed during your initial intake assessment.
-
We do not offer couples therapy. Family therapy may be available depending on the presenting concern, particularly when working with young children and their families. Our providers are trained in both individual and family-based interventions for infants, children, teens, and their caregivers.

No, we do not accept insurance for the following reasons:
Insurance requires a formal mental health diagnosis for reimbursement, which may not apply to all clients seeking therapy.
Diagnoses submitted to insurance become part of your permanent medical record.
Insurance may limit the types of services covered, based on diagnosis and treatment codes.
Self-pay allows for greater flexibility in treatment planning, intervention strategies, and confidentiality.
We understand that private pay may not be financially feasible for everyone. To increase access, we partner with the Open Path Psychotherapy Collective to offer a limited number of reduced-fee therapy slots for qualifying clients. Please contact us directly to inquire about availability.
-
No. We do not provide superbills or documentation for insurance submission. All services at Mensink Counseling & Consulting are private pay and not eligible for insurance reimbursement, including out-of-network benefits.
